About this experience
Tick off two of Abu Dhabi’s bucket-list attractions on this full-day coach tour direct from your hotel in Dubai! Your first stop on the tour is the fairytale Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque – or just plain Grand Mosque if you prefer. There’s nothing plain about its extravagant Islamic architecture though, a glorious confection of gleaming white domes, towering minarets, Swarovski crystal chandeliers and marble columns inlaid with mother of pearl. The hall carpet is also said to be the largest in the world, weighing in at over 60,000 square feet and 35 tons. That’s a whole lot of rug!
There’s plenty to see here, including the vast prayer hall and white-gold Wall of Allah, illuminated by an enormous, lavish chandelier. Equally, you might just want to spend hours taking selfies in the spectacular courtyard with its reflective pools, grandiose floral tiling and quartet of 35-feet-high minarets.
The tour’s second stop is the Louvre Abu Dhabi. It’s only the largest art museum on the Arabian peninsula so, again, there’ll be plenty to occupy you here. We’re talking a huge variety of Eastern and Western art from across the centuries, including many pieces loaned from French museums, among them the Louvre (of course), the Musée d’Orsay and the Palace of Versailles. Expect to see the likes of Matisse, Manet and Van Gogh rubbing shoulders with Japanese ceremonial armor and millennia-old statues from Jordan.

Louvre Abu Dhabi Museum and Grand Mosque Tour highlights
Grand Mosque courtyard – the mosque’s extraordinary courtyard is filled with shimmering reflective pools and flanked on all sides by brilliant-white domes. A fairytale minaret stands proudly in each corner and the courtyard’s giant marble tiles are adorned with paintings of blushing pink roses and other flowers.
The prayer hall – the hangar-sized prayer hall holds many wonders, not least the colorful hand-woven carpet that took 1,200 artisans 16 months to complete. Columns inlaid with semi-precious stones line the hall and the epic main chandelier is 32 feet across and 49 tall. Don’t miss the wall where Allah’s 99 names are engraved in beautiful Arabic calligraphy.
The best of Western art – Louvre Abu Dhabi contains multiple masterpieces by a veritable who’s who of Western art. We’re talking an 1887 self portrait by Van Gogh, da Vinci’s enigmatic La Belle Ferronnière, and Saint-Lazare Station by Claude Monet, to name just a few.
Ancient Eastern artifacts – the sheer volume of priceless ancient artifacts in the museum is breathtaking. Don’t miss the pages from the Blue Quran, dating from around 900 AD, the ancient Chinese Buddha head and the rather stern-looking 8,000-year-old statues from ‘Ain Ghazal in Jordan.
Louvre Abu Dhabi Museum and Grand Mosque Tour facts
Constructed between 1996 and 2007, the Grand Mosque is the largest in the UAE, covering around 30 acres. The vast prayer hall can accommodate up to 7,000 worshippers at a time and the whole complex can hold over 40,000!
The prayer hall carpet – the largest carpet on the planet – was handwoven by 1,200 artisans over a 16-month period. The resulting rug is some 60,000 square feet and 35 tons and required two jumbo jets to fly it to the mosque.
There are 96 columns in the prayer hall, four minarets in the courtyard, 82 domes of varying sizes around the complex and 99 names for Allah on the qibla wall facing Mecca.
With 86,000 square feet of gallery space, the Louvre Abu Dhabi is the largest art museum on the Arabian Peninsula and the most-visited museum in the Arab world.
The Louvre contains thousands of treasures, from ancient archeological artifacts to modern masterpieces by the lives of Matisse, da Vinci and Van Gogh.
